Generic Levitra contains vardenafil and falls to the class of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. To treat erectile dysfunction, Levitra is used. The function of Levitra is to achieve erections in the male for sexual activity. It increases the blood flow to the penis of a man, which then makes him aroused sexually. This drug does not help for sexual desire but works for sexual stimulation. So, if you don’t have a desire to have sex, this medicine can’t make your penile erection.

How should Levitra be used?

It is recommended that you take one 10 mg tablet about 25 to 60 minutes before you are planning to have sexual activity. This medication starts showing its effectiveness in 15 minutes after taking it and can last up to eight to ten hours. You shouldn’t take more than one tablet a day.

Levitra can be taken with or without food. Try to intake less alcohol when you are consuming Levitra, as it is seen that liquor affects sexual activities. Therefore, it may reduce the effectiveness of Levitra if taken in a high quantity.

Who shouldn’t take Levitra?

Levitra shouldn’t be taken if you are:

  • taking any medications which have nitrate in them, such as isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, amyl nitrite, etc.
  • taking medicines for HIV, such as indinavir, ritonavir, etc.
  • taking medicines for fungal infection, such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, etc.
  • taking any lungs medicine for high blood pressure, such as riociguat.
  • having an allergy towards vardenafil or any other ingredient that Levitra contains.
  • suffering or have suffered an episode such as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or NAION. This is an eye condition which is caused due to loss of blood in the optic nerve.

If you are using Levitra, you shouldn’t use nitrate medications as Levitra contains vardenafil which may drop your blood pressure suddenly to a very low level which can cause fainting, heart attack, stroke, etc., and can be fatal.
